'Meloncholia' Named Top Movie of 2011 from Movie Line

1. Melancholia

The opposite of love isn’t hate, it’s indifference, and in Lars von Trier’s film it’s the awesome force of Kirsten Dunst’s depression-fueled disinterest that exudes a gravitational drag on everyone around here even before the arrival of the destructive planet of the title. Before the breathtaking apocalyptic imagery appears — the object looming closer in the sky, the static sparking from fingertips — Melancholia is already a devastating look at an illness that leaves you unable to connect to what life has to offer, even on an extravagant wedding day that seems to compress half a lifetime into a night. But it’s that the film turns to offer a sympathetic eye to Charlotte Gainsbourg’s anxious sibling in the second half that makes it great, and that gives it a soul. As she struggles to hold everything together in the face of approaching disaster, even Dunst’s depressive is moved to offer her a conciliatory gesture as the world ends.

Stellan Skarsgard Talks About Not Giving Advice to Alex

Do you watch 'True Blood' on a regular basis?
No, no. I watch it now and then. Sporadically. I don't follow it. I don't have time for that. I don't follow it regularly, but I do watch it now and again to see where it's going. It's very well written. And I think Alexander is having a lot of fun doing it.

He told me his story about how he came to visit you and he wound up in 'Zoolander.'
[Laughs and shakes head] Yeah. I wasn't even involved in it. Because, as I've said, I never help my kids and I never encourage them and I never give them any advice. It's their careers and they have to make it themselves. So he probably met my agent and that's how it happened -- and suddenly he's on fire at a gas station.

Stellan Skarsgård watches son Alexander in 'True Blood'

Stellan Skarsgård has said that he watches True Blood from time to time.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo star revealed that while he does not follow the HBO series regularly, he does sometimes enjoy watching his son Alexander Skarsgård in the show.

"I watch it now and then," Stellan told Moviefone. "Sporadically. I don't follow it. I don't have time for that. I don't follow it regularly, but I do watch it now and again to see where it's going.

"It's very well written," he added. "And I think Alexander is having a lot of fun doing it."

Last month, Alexander said that he enjoyed working with his father in Melancholia, revealing he had never shot a film with his father before.

In September, Stellan said that he was offered a role on True Blood, but had to turn down the part because he is too busy.

James Marsden Talks Scenes with Alex Skarsgard for Straw Dogs Blu Ray

You can order Straw Dogs through Amazon here

One of the great things that director Rod Lurie does with this version, in terms of the confrontations, is how giant and looming he makes Alexander Skarsgard seem. I mean, you're not a little guy. And he towers over you in some of these climactic end scenes. How challenging was it to choreograph some of the fights, keeping that visual perspective in mind?

New 'Battleship' Still Featuring Alexander Skarsgard + Movie Details

Alexander Skarsgård is back at work filming True Blood Season 5, but news of his movie Battleship (plus new stills) surfaced today thanks to Collider.com. They break down 18 things they learned about the movie while visiting the editing bay. My personal favorite:

The film has a very strange sense of humor. During the meetcute between the romantic leads, a down on his luck Taylor Kitsch breaks into a convenience store and steals a frozen burrito in an effort to wooBrooklyn Decker. The burglary goes horribly awry and ends with repeated tasing. The scene is bizarre indeed, but it’s also fairly charming, at times even recalling the tone of Raising Arizona.

The movie is set to release May 18, 2012.

Rumor has it that a 2nd movie trailer will be released online tomorrow.

In Berlin on Saturday the European Film Awards – voted on by 2,500 members of the European Film Academy – offered its year-end prizes. “Melancholia,” from the Danish director Lars von Trier, was named best picture; it also earned awards for cinematography and production design. Mr. von Trier sent his wife, Bente Froge, to accept the award on his behalf. She said Mr. von Trier had taken a vow of silence since he stirred up a hornet’s nest at the Cannes Film Festival with his comments about Nazis and then later to the press.

Brit Marling Interview with IFC- "You Won't Recognize Alexander Skarsgard" in The East

Fans who love Alexander Skarsgard for his role as Eric Northman in HBO’s hit series “True Blood” won’t see too much of their favorite fanged Viking in his recent roles. In “Straw Dogs” he plays a villain who ends up brutally raping his ex-girlfriend, in “Battleship” he’s a naval officer, and in the upcoming indie “The East” he’s the head of an anarchist activism organization.

Alexander Skarsgard One of Sexiest of 2011 in 'Who' Magazine (Scan)- Australia

from November 23rd issue

With his cool Nordic looks he’s arrestingly handsome, but there’s more to Skarsgård’s sex appeal than those piercing blue eyes and intense stare. Named Sexiest Man Alive five times in his native Sweden, he made the rest of the world take notice when he landed the role of dangerously alluring vampire Eric in True Blood. Spending much of his screen time naked is no big deal for the 1.93m star, who thanks the long Swedish winters cooped up indoors for his liberal attitudes to sex: “When you’re bored, you just have sex,” he explained. But the son of actor Stellan Skarsgård isn’t interested in being only the onscreen eye candy: “I can’t just be ‘and the hot guy walks into the room.’ It’s not interesting if someone is always perfectly tanned, the air is blow-dried,” the newly single star said. “The only thing that’s important is to make it real.”

"Especially Made For You" Holiday Charity Event 2011

This is also in the blog's sidebar

The holidays can be a magical experience…those with families and loved ones to share the memories with, but not everyone is so fortunate. Women and children of domestic violence are in that category….

Did you know that every 9 seconds in the US a woman is assaulted or beaten. Studies suggest that up to 10 million children witness some form of domestic violence annually and those children are twice as likely to abuse their own wives than sons of nonviolent parents. The sad thing is…based on reports from 10 countries, between 55 percent and 95 percent of women who had been physically abused by their partners had never contacted non-governmental organizations, shelters, or the police for help. Many feel they don’t have the means to walk away, they don’t know how or they’re just too afraid to take those steps in order to better their lives….the lives of their little ones.
