Alex Makes Best Dressed Celebrity Men of 2011

NOVEMBER 2011 – BEST DRESSED CELEBRITY MEN OF 2011

Every year, iconic men of the film, music, and fashion industry strut their stuff at both private and red carpet events around the globe. And though the task is often embedded in said celebrity’s job description, some leading industry men do it better than others (let’s face it; there have been some real disasters this year). Inevitably, our editors just had to give credit where credit is due. Take a peek through the gallery below to see this year’s fashion do’s!

Name: Alexander Skarsgard

Profession: Actor

Why we love his style:
There’s no way we could publish this list without placing True Blood star Alexander Skarsgard on it. This year, the actor made an appearance in Vogue, starred in a movie Straw Dogs, and appropriately made a stylish appearance at a GQ party.

Alexander Skarsgård - 35

Already crowned sexiest man alive in his native Sweden, the 35-year-old star has been wooing American audiences with his brooding portrayal as bad-boy vampire Eric Northman on True Blood. “It’s very flattering,” the newly single star says of the attention. “I turn a little pink!”

Eric Northman Makes The Houston Chronicle's Sexy Beasts List

ERIC NORTHMAN (True Blood)

As played by emerging star Alexander Skarsgård, he has to be the most interesting character in the juicy jambalaya that is HBO's popular supernatural-sex-and-death series. The roguish Viking sheriff (really, need we go on?) may be good or may be bad. Just the way the ladies like it.

Alexander Skarsgard Talks About His Fans, Meloncholia, and TB + 2 New Photos

Alexander Skarsgard must have a dark side. He’s drawn to characters who emanate a silky menace: not only his most famous role, the 1,000-year-old vampire Eric Northman on the HBO series True Blood; but also a violent hayseed in this year’s remake of Straw Dogs; and a steely U.S. Marine sergeant in the 2008 miniseries Generation Kill. His gorgeous new film,Melancholia, written and directed by Lars von Trier, digs deep into two of the toughest subjects around, severe depression and the end of the world. (It opened in select cities yesterday.)

Alexander Skarsgard Tells Moviefone He Doesn't Want To Be Eric Northman Forever

Alexander Skarsgard is well aware that he can't be the scoundrelly yet, at times, amiable, vampire Eric Northman forever. That's not to say that he hasn't enjoyed his time on 'True Blood'; he has, even if that does include filming an occasional ménage à trois with real-life husband and wife Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin. But he also realizes that continuing to play the versions of Eric Northman he's continuously offered -- "without the fangs," he admits -- is, as Skarsgard puts it, "creative suicide." In other words: nothing a Lars von Trier movie won't fix.

In 'Melancholia,' Skarsgard plays Michael, a man we meet on the day he's set to marry Justine (Kirsten Dunst), until every single thing that could wrong during a wedding does go wrong. Of course, all that happens before they learn that a rouge planet -- named Melancholia -- is on a collision course with Earth. Moviefone spoke to Skarsgard about what it's like to work for the controversial director, his game plan to avoid being typecast as a vampire, the details of filming a threesome with a real life married couple, and how 'Zoolander' changed his life forever.

Alexander Skarsgard on Meloncholia, True Blood, and More

Voted ‘Sweden’s Sexiest Man’ five times, Alexander Skarsgard became a breakout star on HBO’s True Blood and, with his complex role in Lars von Trier’s masterpiece Melancholia, is ready for his closeup. The actor opens up to Marlow Stern about his early role in Zoolander, dating co-stars, how his naval background prepared him for next summer’s Battleship opposite Rihanna, and more.

Alexander Skarsgard Interview with Indie Wire

1. For many actors Lars Von Trier is a big draw. So much so that Alexander Skarsgård didn’t even read the script -- he was in from the moment he heard the words “Lars Von Trier.” The rest of the cast felt the same way.Skarsgård’s father has worked with him six times and his advice was always, “If you ever get the opportunity, just do it, it’s the most amazing thing,” so the son jumped at the chance when he got the call. “I said, ‘What do you want me to do, make your breakfast? I’m in.’ ” he said. “I’m a huge fan. That’s why when I got the call, I said yes, even before I read the script. I was like, ‘I’ll do whatever you want me to do.’ I’m not going to turn down an opportunity to work with him.”

Review of Meloncholia From The Wall Street Journal

A few days ago a mountain-size asteroid came close to Earth, then zipped safely past it. The threat is more substantial in this hauntingly beautiful drama by the Danish filmmaker Lars von Trier. On one level the title refers to the planet Melancholia, a vast and mysterious orb that may or may not hit us and put an end to terrestrial life. But "Melancholia," which stars Kirsten Dunst, isn't really concerned with astronomy, or what happens when worlds collide, even though the literal drama of an impending apocalypse is evoked with an extraordinary mixture of gravity and grave playfulness. Its true subject is melancholia as a spiritual state, a destroyer of happiness that emerges from its hiding place behind the sun, just like the menacing planet, then holds the heroine, Justine, in its unyielding grip and gives Ms. Dunst the unlikely occasion for a dazzling performance.

Alexander Skarsgard Interview with IFC About Meloncholia + Video

Director Lars von Trier doesn't have the best reputation as an actor's director (he also doesn't have the best reputation as a public speaker, but that's a conversation for another time). He supposedly fought with Nicole Kidman on the set of "Dogville" and the star definitely didn't return for the film's sequel, "Manderlay" (she was replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard). For years, rumors swirled that Bjork vowed never to act in a film again after the grueling experience making von Trier's "Dancer in the Dark." She later claimed she never wanted to act at allbut made an exception for von Trier. Then again; she has acted a couple more times, including in the film "Drawing Restraint 9," so who knows.

Stephen Moyer Jokes About Asking for Sex Tips from Alex Skarsgard

Stephen talks about how to spend quality time with his wife Anna, being apart so much of the year.

Even if that reunion might involve watching a naked Swedish man sucking blood from various parts of his wife’s body. (...)

“And for the sex scenes, we both have to do it, so it’s not like one of us gets to be jealous while the other one gets all the fun.
“It’s part of the job and we have scenes with other people in our different films.
“What’s good about True Blood is that Alex Skarsgard (who plays rival vampire Eric on the show and has many kinky scenes with Anna’s character Sookie) is a good friend of mine.
“So it’s not an issue. Although I’ve joked that she does look like she’s having a really good time with Alex, so I’ve asked him for pointers.”
